Types of Cabinet Facings

Types of Cabinet Facings

When beginning to compare kitchen cabinets, the first thing to decide is if you want painted or natural wood cabinets. Next, start looking at door styles and different types of cabinet facings. Therefore, the type of door you choose has the potential to have an even bigger impact on your kitchen than the style you choose.

Shaker

Very simple and lending to a clean design, the shaker style is probably the hottest trend indoors right now. Furthermore, they are often built inset and look fantastic in natural wood or painted. While white was the prevailing choice, light grey and natural wood are appearing more and more. As a result, shaker cabinets lend just enough style to the design without being overly fancy.

Glass

Typically you’ll find one or two upper cabinets with glass doors used with mostly wood ones. Mixing types is a huge trend right now. Also, they’re used to showcase prized possessions like china or any other items you enjoy. With glass, you don’t have to hide away your China in a dark cabinet. One effect that makes a nice touch is to use them and to add a light to the inside of the cabinet. You can also use them as accent lighting.

Beadboard

Beadboard got its start as a popular option for cabinets. They are an easy decorative addition to millwork that’s being made on-site. Since its early adoption, it’s only become more popular. You’ll find it in a lot of traditional kitchens including craftsman and seaside-styled homes.
