To help get you started, we reached out to The English Contractor, a Cincinnati-based professional whose years of experience has led to dozens of home renovations and a partnership with HGTV on its popular show Urban Oasis. Here are three things he told us you need to know before updating your bathroom.
 

2. SET A BUDGET

 
You’ve got your budget and inspirations in place, now is the time to plan and schedule. “We can’t stress enough that a  good team from the start is a  great  way  to  ease  any  pre-renovation  jitters.”  If you’re working with professionals, “Be upfront about  your  timing,  budget  and expectations.”. “The more  open  and  honest  you  can  all  be  with  each  other,  the  easier the entire process will be.” Their guidance will help you stay on track and on budget. If it’s a DIY project, you’ll need to hold yourself accountable or delegate someone on your team to keep everyone on task. Before beginning your remodel, take the time to ensure that all materials needed are on-site, have been inspected, and are ready to go. This will help prevent any hiccups…and it’s also nice to see that stack of materials dwindle as your vision becomes reality in your new space.
 

3. IMAGINE YOUR SPACE

 
Bathroom renovation costs vary greatly depending on the size of your space and how you decide to update. The typical bathroom remodel costs anywhere between $5,000 – $15,000. High-end renovations can top out at $25,000 or more when hiring a group of professionals. But DIY-ers can save big, spending as little as $1,500 on simpler, smaller room updates. Research and take the time to get to know your local building codes and talk to people about how their home projects went. “The more familiar you are about the entire renovation process, the better,” he advises.
