DBI Kitchen and Bath

We are an Accredited Business Member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB). DBI carries an A+ rating which means that we have chosen to be accountable. Also, we continue to demonstrate good faith to our community. We do this through our business relationships and our operations. DBI Kitchen and Bath commits to responsible construction practices. We install sustainable and energy-efficient materials.

Design Your Vision

We have a designer on staff with over 30 years of professional cabinet experience. They are here to help you every step of the way. We will handle all the details for you. This includes measuring, design layout, and finish/fixture consultation as needed. We will take the time to thoughtfully lay out your space in our design software. We present to you in full color 3D—you will be amazed how this will help you visualize your space! DBI doesn’t charge to layout your design, and we will work with you until it is exactly how you want it. Other cabinetry suppliers may offer quick and extremely basic design layouts, but we actually put thought into it! We not only want it to be right, but we want it to be right for YOU!

Pick the Right Flooring

Solid wood floors, while they do infuse bathrooms with great character, are not the best type of flooring material for bathrooms. Instead, pick flooring that is hardy enough to stand up against the rigors of daily bathroom use. Bathroom flooring favorites include ceramic and porcelain tile. Also, luxury vinyl plank, vinyl tiles, and sheet vinyl flooring.

Adjust Room Size With Color

To make a small bathroom look bigger, make sure that your color palette stays in the white-or-light color spectrum. Dark colors make the room feel smaller, claustrophobic. Use white or light-colored fixtures (i.e., toilet and bathtub). Always think twice about painting your bathroom ceiling any color but white or off-white, as this tends to shrink the room down even more.

Recess For Extra Room

When space is tight, built-ins such as recessed soap dishes, medicine cabinets, and even toilet roll holders pry out as much available room as possible from tiny bathrooms. You can flatten the ceiling light by converting your ceiling light into a recessed light.

Address Bathroom Ventilation

Bathrooms need some type of ventilation, by code, either in the form of a properly sized window or a bathroom exhaust fan. For bathroom fans, look at both their exhaust capacity (or how many cubic feet of air per minute they can move) in conjunction with their noise levels.

Add Plants for Living Color

Plants in the bathroom should not be an afterthought. Plants bring much-needed color into sterile bathrooms. Consider adding a floating shelf expressly for giving your trailing plants a cozy home.

Decorative backsplash rack

Backsplash racks offer easy access and stylish storage. Most versions take just a few minutes to install. Type “backsplash rack” into any online search engine to find a range of styles. You’ll also find a range of prices (up to $60 per foot!).

Try an island before you buy

If you want more counter and storage space, then adding a center island may be worth the cost. But an island can limit the number of people working in the kitchen, reduce traffic flow to one-way with no passing, and make for cramped quarters. Try out an island before committing to one. Slap together a full-scale model out of cardboard or plywood and live with it for a few days. Make sure you can open your stove and refrigerator doors. No space for an island? Consider a kitchen trolley instead.

Order countertops after the cabinets are in

Measure your installed base cabinets to determine the countertop dimensions—don’t use the ones on your plans. The row of cabinets may have a different dimension after installation due to out-of-square walls. Place a carpenter’s square in the corner over the end cabinet. The corner might be narrower than the rest of the wall because of layers of joint compound. Measure to the farthest point on the wall over the cabinets. This is to avoid an ugly gap between the countertop and the wall after the countertops get installed.

Gain precious counter space

Pull-down racks give you instant access to kitchen essentials without the clutter of spice racks or knife holders. After the cooking, the rack swings up against the underside of the cabinet. You can buy ready-made racks or buy a pair of hinges and make your own wooden rack to hold knives, spices or other small items that take up counter space.

Leave space for a bigger fridge

Are you getting new cabinets but want to keep your old refrigerator? Leave enough space between cabinets so you can replace your fridge with a wider model later. (Most refrigerators are 32 to 36 in. wide.) Install filler strips or panels to fill up the extra space. You can install shelving between the panels over the top of the fridge or install top cabinets. Order the filler strips and panels with your cabinets so they match.

Watch out for floor gaps

If you’re keeping your existing floor and replacing your cabinets, you may have to deal with gaps between the old floor and the new cabinets. Base cabinets are usually 24 in. deep, but toe-kick depths vary. Cabinet widths run in 3-in. increments from 6 in. to 48 in. If the new cabinets don’t fit the existing cabinet footprint, you’ll be left with gaps. Be sure the total width of the new cabinets matches the overall width of the ones you’re replacing. Hide gaps smaller than 3/4 in. with molding.

Set up a temporary kitchen

A temporary kitchen lets you cook, wash dishes and make your morning coffee while your main kitchen is out of commission. Save a few of your old cabinets and countertops to build the makeshift kitchen. You don’t need a fancy setup —functionality is the goal here. Install the cabinets and cut the countertop to fit, if necessary. Add the items you need for preparing meals. Items like a toaster oven, hot plate, microwave, coffeemaker and refrigerator (even a half-size model would be great).

Make space for a mini office

If you want to use your kitchen as an office, make it part of the remodel. You don’t need a lot of space. A small seating area with a computer station is often adequate. During the remodel, add Internet access and outlets for plugging in your computer equipment. Also add storage space like shelving or a recessed wall cabinet so your paperwork won’t get lost or create a mess.

CANVAS ON MATERIALS

When you remodel a bathroom, mix items of sanitary ware from different suppliers. This is to offset affordable buys against luxuries such as a quality bath. Saving you money without compensating on a stylish, quality finish. Cash adds, ‘It doesn’t necessarily mean that when a material is cheap, it’s not durable. If you research well, you’ll find the best alternative with the same quality as the expensive ones but at a fraction of the cost.’ Ensuring you know the difference between bad quality cheap fixes. Fixes such as plastic baths or shower trays that are so thin they are flexible. Therefore, difficult to seal and make watertight – and cheaper but sound materials that will still perform and look good is key. ‘Some materials are not expensive but look expensive. Find the right set of materials to give your bathroom a different look that is within your budget.’ And, there are plenty more budget bathroom ideas where that came from.

DESIGN FEATURES THAT TRICK THE EYE

When you’re remodeling a small space like a loft bathroom, designs that trick the eye are your friend. Here, the homeowners have used a wall-hung vanity unit that allows the floor to run underneath, making the space feel larger than it is. The walk-in shower features an alcove for storing toiletries, which avoids shelves intruding into the space.

Adding textural and tonal interest to even the most neutral of bathrooms with matt black hardware enhances the look. Ultra modern and incredibly sleek, it looks great in almost any space. Here, the shower fixtures, tap and vanity unit add dramatic flair. While pared-back white wall tiles in interesting shapes keep things feeling light and bright.
